Applications: HCC2218 was derived from a female whose family members included several members with cancer; four lung cancer patients (two of them, non-smokers), two breast cancer patients (one of them also had lung cancer) and one colon cancer patient.

HCC2218 is a poorly differentiated cell line derived from the primary tumor of an invasive ductal carcinoma with metastases in 42/43 lymph nodes.

The cells are highly positive for expression of Her2/neu, and are also positive for expression of p53.

HCC2218 is positive for the epithelial cell specific marker Epithelial Glycoprotein 2 [EGP2] and for cytokeratin 19.

The cells are negative for expression of estrogen receptor (ER -).

Propagation: ATCC complete growth medium: The base medium for this cell line is ATCC-formulated RPMI-1640 Medium, Catalog No. 30-2001. To make the complete growth medium, add the following components to the base medium: fetal bovine serum to a final concentration of 10%.

Subculturing: Medium Renewal: Add fresh medium every 2 to 3 days (depending on cell density)

Cultures can be maintained by addition of fresh medium or replacement of medium. Alternatively, cultures can be established by centrifugation of the suspension with subsequent resuspension in fresh medium. Add medium as the cell density increases.

Preservation: Culture medium, 95%; DMSO, 5%
